A nonstick pan is the one piece of cookware most people replace on a schedule. The coating wears, eggs start to catch, and the pan goes in the donation box. Hybrid pans try to stretch that schedule by putting a stainless steel pattern over the coating, while carbon steel and clad designs take other routes to the same goal.
This guide compares six pans and sets on what you can check before you pay: today's price on each brand's own site, the oven limit, whether it works on induction, what the coating is made of, and what the warranty actually covers. Prices were checked on Oct 27, 2026. No pan here was tested hands-on by Search Wary; every performance claim is the brand's own and is labeled that way.
Our top pick is HexClad, with five honest alternatives for people who want a lower price, a ceramic set, a coating-free pan or a cheap workhorse.

Our top pick
HexClad Hybrid Cookware
HexClad pairs a tri-ply stainless body with a PFAS-free ceramic nonstick (per the brand) and backs it with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects, which is the strongest coverage among the coated pans here. It's also sold in the widest range of sizes and shapes, from a $109 7-inch pan to a $699 12-piece set, so you can start with one pan and add more later.

Best overall hybrid
1. HexClad Hybrid Cookware
From $109

HexClad's pans have a laser-etched stainless steel hexagon pattern sitting above a ceramic nonstick layer. HexClad says the steel peaks handle searing while the recessed valleys hold its TerraBond ceramic coating, which it describes as free from PTFE and forever chemicals (PFAS). The body is tri-ply with an aluminum core.
Per the brand, the pans are metal-utensil safe, dishwasher safe and oven safe up to 900°F. HexClad also notes that medium heat on its pans equals medium-high on other cookware, so expect to turn the burner down.
Single fry pans run from $109 (7-inch) to $179 (12-inch), and the 12-piece Pots & Pans Set is $699, measured against a $999 list price on HexClad's site. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturer defects only; HexClad excludes damage from excessive heat, abuse and improper storage.

- Brand says to use lower heat than you may be used to
Best traditional nonstick on a clad body
2. Made In ProCoat Non Stick Frying Pan
$139–$159

Made In takes its 5-ply stainless clad pan and coats the cooking surface with what it calls a professional-grade nonstick. The result is a smooth, conventional nonstick surface with no steel pattern, on a heavier clad body that Made In says works on gas, electric and induction and is oven safe to 500°F.
Prices on Made In's site are $139 (8-inch), $149 (10-inch) and $159 (12-inch). Made In offers a 60-day return window on most items shipped within the contiguous US.
Read the warranty before you buy. Made In's nonstick carries a 2-year limited warranty, and its warranty page says metal utensils, dishwasher use, medium heat or higher and heating the pan empty all void it. The product page calls the coating FDA-approved but does not describe it as PFAS-free. Buy it if you want a classic slick surface and will baby it; skip it if you want a pan that tolerates metal tools.
- Construction

- Costs more than HexClad's 8- and 10-inch pans
- No PFAS-free claim on the product page
Best ceramic set with storage
3. Caraway Cookware Set
$445 (12-pc set)

Caraway sells a full matching ceramic set rather than a single hero pan. The set includes a fry pan, sauce pan, sauté pan and Dutch oven, plus lids and storage organizers, which is how Caraway gets to 12 pieces. The coating is a ceramic nonstick that Caraway says is made without PTFE, PFOA and PFAS, and it lists the pans as oven safe up to 550°F and compatible with all stovetops.
The 12-piece set is $445 in Cream on Caraway's site, measured against a $675 list price (Caraway advertises it as $230 off). Some colors cost more; the Black set was $595. A single 10.5-inch fry pan is $125.
Caraway offers free shipping on orders over $90, a 30-day trial and a 1-year limited warranty. That warranty is the shortest of any brand here, which matters because ceramic coatings tend to lose their slickness over time.

- Oven safe
- Up to 550°F, per Caraway

- Ceramic surfaces can lose slickness faster than hybrid or carbon steel designs
Best hybrid for less
4. GreenPan Spectra Thermobond Hybrid Ceramic Nonstick Frypan
From $129.99

Spectra is GreenPan's direct answer to HexClad: a 3-ply stainless pan with an etched stainless steel pattern over a ceramic nonstick. GreenPan says its Thermobond process adds a reinforced boost layer under its PFAS-free nonstick.
GreenPan lists Spectra as oven and broiler safe up to 850°F and compatible with induction. It calls the pan metal-utensil safe but recommends silicone tools, and dishwasher safe while recommending hand washing. Those two hedges are worth taking seriously if you want the coating to last.
The 10-inch pan was $129.99 on GreenPan's site, against a $189.99 list price, and an 8- and 10-inch set was $159.99. GreenPan offers a limited lifetime warranty on manufacturer defects, free shipping over $150 and, for now, extended holiday returns of 90 days on unused items in original packaging.

- Free shipping only above $150, so a single pan ships at a cost
Best coating-free option
5. Misen Carbon Nonstick Frying Pan
From $109

Misen's Carbon Nonstick takes a different route: no coating at all. Misen describes it as 3-ply, with a nitrided carbon steel cooking surface over an aluminum core, and says it is free of PFAS, PTFE and PFOA. Because there's no coating to burn off, Misen rates the pan heat safe up to 1,100°F (the optional glass lid is rated to 450°F).
Misen says the pan is metal-utensil safe and induction compatible, but hand wash only, and it recommends preheating with a small amount of oil and conditioning the surface. Expect it to behave more like a well-kept carbon steel pan than a slick coated one.
Prices without a lid are $109 (8-inch), $129 (10-inch) and $139 (12-inch); the 10-inch with a glass lid is $159. Misen backs it with a lifetime warranty against defects, a 60-day test drive and free returns.
- Construction
- Nitrided carbon steel + aluminum core (3-ply)
- Coating
- None; PFAS-, PTFE- and PFOA-free (per Misen)

- Less forgiving with eggs than a fresh coated pan
Best budget nonstick
6. Tramontina Professional Nonstick Fry Pan
From $34.95

If you treat nonstick pans as consumables, Tramontina's restaurant-style pan is the honest choice. It's heavy-gauge aluminum with a reinforced nonstick interior, a riveted cast stainless handle and a removable silicone grip, and Tramontina says it is NSF certified.
Prices on Tramontina's site were $34.95 (10-inch), $39.95 (12-inch) and $54.95 (14-inch); the 8-inch was out of stock. Tramontina lists it as dishwasher safe, oven safe to 400°F and covered by a lifetime warranty.
Two limits matter. Tramontina lists gas, electric and ceramic glass cooktops only, so it is not listed for induction. And the product page doesn't name the coating chemistry, so if PFAS-free matters to you, look at Caraway, GreenPan, HexClad or Misen instead. Free shipping starts at $99.
- Construction
- Heavy-gauge aluminum
- Coating
- Reinforced nonstick (chemistry not named)
- Oven safe
- Up to 400°F, per Tramontina
- Induction
- Not listed (gas, electric, ceramic glass)

How we chose
We started with the pans that come up most when people search for nonstick and hybrid cookware, then kept the ones that each make a clear case for a different buyer. For every pick we read the brand's own product, warranty, shipping and return pages on Oct 27, 2026.
We compared:
- Price today on the brand's own site, not a retailer's, and any list price the brand shows next to it.
- Heat limits and cooktops, including induction, because a pan that can't go on your stove is no bargain.
- What the surface is: hybrid, ceramic, conventional nonstick or coating-free carbon steel, and what the brand says about PTFE and PFAS.
- Warranty fine print, especially what voids coverage on the coating.
- Return windows and shipping thresholds.
We did not cook with these pans. Performance claims are attributed to each brand. HexClad is our top pick and has a full Search Wary review; we may earn a commission if you buy through our link, which does not change the facts above.
What to look for
Hybrid, ceramic, PTFE or carbon steel?
- Hybrid (HexClad, GreenPan Spectra): stainless pattern over a coating. Brands pitch them as tougher than plain nonstick and better at browning.
- Ceramic (Caraway): a slick sol-gel style coating sold as PTFE- and PFAS-free. Easy to clean when new.
- Conventional nonstick (Made In, Tramontina): the slickest release, but the coatings are typically the least tolerant of high heat and metal tools.
- Coating-free carbon (Misen): nothing to wear off, but it needs oil and a little upkeep.
Check the warranty against how pans actually fail
Most nonstick pans die from worn coatings, overheating or dishwasher use. Many warranties exclude exactly those. Made In's 2-year nonstick warranty is voided by metal utensils, dishwashers or medium-high heat. HexClad's lifetime warranty excludes excessive heat and abuse. Read what's excluded, not just the length.
Match the pan to your cooktop
Induction needs a magnetic base. HexClad says every Hybrid pan works on induction, and Made In, GreenPan, Misen and Caraway list induction or all-stovetop support. Tramontina's Professional pan does not.
Price per pan, side by side
| Pan | 10-inch class | 12-inch class |
|---|---|---|
| HexClad Hybrid | $149 | $179 |
| Made In ProCoat | $149 | $159 |
| Caraway Fry Pan | $125 (10.5-inch) | Not checked |
| GreenPan Spectra | $129.99 | Not checked |
| Misen Carbon Nonstick | $129 | $139 |
| Tramontina Professional | $34.95 | $39.95 |
Buy one pan first
Sets look like better value, but they often include sizes you won't use. A 10- or 12-inch skillet covers most daily cooking. If you like it after the return window closes, add pieces later.
FAQ
Is HexClad worth the money?
It depends on how you treat pans. HexClad costs $149 for a 10-inch fry pan, and it offers a lifetime warranty on manufacturer defects plus metal-utensil and dishwasher-safe claims. If you replace cheap nonstick every year or two, that can add up in HexClad's favor. If you mainly want a slick egg pan, Tramontina's $34.95 10-inch does the job for far less.
Are hybrid pans really nonstick?
They are partly nonstick. The coating sits in recessed areas between raised stainless steel, so food touches both. HexClad and GreenPan both describe this as a balance between searing and easy release. Expect to use a little oil or butter, and don't expect the frictionless glide of a brand-new conventional nonstick pan.
Which of these pans are PFAS-free?
Per the brands, HexClad's TerraBond coating, GreenPan Spectra's nonstick and Caraway's ceramic are PFAS-free, and Misen says its Carbon Nonstick has no coating and is free of PFAS, PTFE and PFOA. Made In's and Tramontina's product pages did not make a PFAS-free claim when we checked on Oct 27, 2026.
Can nonstick pans go in the dishwasher?
Some brands say yes: HexClad, Tramontina and, with a hand-wash recommendation, GreenPan. Made In and Misen say hand wash only, and Made In's warranty is voided by dishwasher use. Even where it's allowed, hand washing is gentler on any coating.
What's the cheapest good nonstick pan here?
Tramontina's Professional Nonstick Fry Pan, at $34.95 for 10 inches and $39.95 for 12 inches on Tramontina's site. It's NSF certified and covered by a lifetime warranty, per the brand, but it isn't listed for induction and its oven limit is 400°F.
How long does a nonstick pan last?
No brand here promises a coating lifespan. Made In states that no coating lasts a lifetime and that normal wear isn't covered. Lifespan depends on heat, utensils and cleaning. Lower heat, wooden or silicone tools and hand washing extend any coating. Coating-free carbon steel, like Misen's, avoids the problem but needs more care.
