The short answer

Frost Buddy is a fair buy at sale prices and a so-so one at full price. A regular Universal Buddy costs $39.99, while the pre-Black Friday sale cuts selected designs to as little as $19.99. Returns are free for 30 days on unused items, but there's no published product warranty and the Mystery Boxes are final sale.

What Frost Buddy is

Frost Buddy is a US drinkware brand known for insulated can coolers and cup holders. A 2026 profile in Illinois Country Living says brothers Brock and Mitch Mammoser started it after one asked whether anyone made an insulated cooler for slim seltzer cans. They first sold slim-can coolers, then redesigned the product into the Universal Buddy, a single cooler that holds several can and bottle sizes. The same profile says the company still runs a warehouse in Effingham, Illinois. The brand's own Buddy Club page also says retired designs will be printed to order by its team in Illinois.

Today the range covers can coolers, cup insulators, handled tumblers, water bottles, mugs and kids' cups, and there are licensed collections for NCAA schools, MLB, Twilight and Coca-Cola. Frost Buddy sells mainly through frostbuddy.com, a Shopify store. The Illinois Country Living profile also names Dick's Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, TJ Maxx, Buc-ee's and Scheels as retailers.

What makes it different

One cooler for many can sizes

Most can coolers fit one format, which means a regular-can sleeve and a separate slim-can sleeve. Frost Buddy's pitch is that the Universal Buddy fits 12oz regular and slim cans, 12oz and stubby bottles and 16oz cans, all in one. The brand's FAQ also says the current version fits all cup holders, unlike its original design. If you only drink one kind of can, this matters less.

Coolers built around takeout cups

The To-Go Buddy and Thicc Buddy are designed to hold a cup you already bought. Frost Buddy says the To-Go Buddy fits 12oz to 30oz cups from chains such as Starbucks, Dunkin and McDonald's. It says the Thicc Buddy 50oz takes cups up to 44oz. The idea is to insulate a drive-thru drink instead of pouring it into a tumbler.

Constant design drops

Frost Buddy releases new designs often, and its navigation says VIP members get drops one day early. That keeps the catalog fresh. It also explains why older designs end up on the sale page quickly, which works in a patient buyer's favor. Some sold-out sale designs were marked "Restock in November" when we checked, so a design you like may come back, though not necessarily at the sale price.

Returns that include a change of mind

Many drinkware brands only cover defects. Frost Buddy's return policy lists "does not meet your expectations" next to damage and wrong items as reasons that qualify for a free prepaid label. The condition is that the item is unused and in its original packaging. So you can open the box and look at the product, but don't fill it with a drink if you might send it back.

The product range

Prices depend more on the design than on the size. Frost Buddy's own designs usually cost $5 less than licensed ones for the same model. The "from" prices below are the lowest live prices we saw, including sale designs.

Current offers

Frost Buddy discounts mainly through marked-down designs on its Sale page, an email sign-up code and Mystery Boxes. When we checked, the Sale page was titled Pre Black Friday / Cyber Monday and listed 108 items, with the deepest markdowns at 51%.

Sale items are not marked final sale, so the standard 30-day return terms appear to apply.

The Wary Check

Frost Buddy passes five of six checks. The gap is the warranty: we found no published product warranty on its FAQ or policy pages.

Price and value

At full price, Frost Buddy costs about the same as other lifestyle drinkware brands. A Universal Buddy is $39.99 ($44.99 for licensed designs), and a Thicc Buddy 40oz is $44.99 ($49.99 licensed). That is a lot for a can cooler, so timing matters. During the pre-Black Friday sale, many discounted designs sat at 30–40% off, and a handful were 51% off. The "Save" percentages are measured against Frost Buddy's own regular prices.

Universal Buddy$39.99 ($44.99 licensed)$19.99
Universal XL$39.99 ($44.99–$49.99 licensed)$27.99

Mystery Buddy Box$150 stated value$100

Shipping changes the math on small orders. Orders under $70 paid $5.99 for standard shipping at checkout when we checked, so a single $39.99 cooler really costs $45.98. Two regular-price Universal Buddys come to $79.98 and ship free.

The Mystery Buddy Box needs a closer look. Its size options run from $100 for a $150 value up to $350 for a $500 value. Its product description, though, quotes different deals ("$200 worth" for $120 and "$400 worth" for $200), which don't match those options. Go by the price in your cart. The box can't be returned, so you're betting that its contents beat what you'd pick on sale.

Licensed designs carry a steady premium. A Texas Longhorns or Ohio State Universal Buddy costs $44.99 against $39.99 for a Frost Buddy design, and the licensed Thicc Buddy 40oz is $49.99 against $44.99. Our scan of the sale page found mostly brand designs on markdown, so school and team fans should expect to pay close to full price.

The sale percentages vary more than the "up to 51%" headline suggests. Of the items showing a percentage on the sale page, the most common markdowns were 31% and 40%, and only a few showed 51%. Before you pay full price for a new drop, check whether the same model in an older design is on sale.

Nothing here is a subscription, so there's no ongoing cost to track. The planned Buddy Club loyalty program, which the brand says will add tiers and members-only designs, was still a waitlist when we checked, so it offers no rewards yet.

Shipping, returns and warranty

The returns are better than average for drinkware. Frost Buddy says it sends a free prepaid return label even when an item simply doesn't meet your expectations, as long as it's unused, in its original packaging and within 30 days. Two things most reviews skip: there's no published product warranty, and returns only cover items bought on frostbuddy.com, not at retailers. Check a new cooler soon after it arrives.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • One Universal Buddy covers slim cans, regular cans, 12oz bottles and 16oz cans, per the brand's fit list
  • The pre-Black Friday sale takes selected designs 30–51% below the brand's own regular price
  • Free 30-day returns with a prepaid label, including for items that don't meet your expectations
  • Clear $70 free-shipping threshold, and no subscriptions or auto-renew
  • Wide design range, including licensed NCAA, MLB and Twilight collections

Cons

  • No product warranty is published, unlike some rivals
  • Regular prices ($39.99–$49.99) are high for a can cooler or tumbler
  • Orders under $70 pay $5.99 shipping, which a single item doesn't clear
  • Mystery Buddy Boxes are final sale, and the product description's prices don't match its own size options
  • Support is email and form only; no phone number is listed

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Good fit: the mixed-can household

If your fridge holds slim seltzers, regular sodas and the odd 16oz can, one Universal Buddy may replace two or three single-size sleeves. Check the brand's fit list against what you actually drink. If you mostly buy 20oz bottles or 24oz cans, go for the Universal XL instead.

Good fit: the drive-thru coffee regular

The To-Go Buddy is built around takeout cups. Frost Buddy says it fits sizes from 12oz to 30oz at Starbucks, Dunkin, Dutch Bros, McDonald's and Wendy's, and that it holds ice for 24+ hours. If you buy an iced coffee most mornings, it addresses a problem a regular tumbler doesn't.

Good fit: the gift buyer during the sale

Frost Buddy is easiest to justify during a sale. Two sale items usually clear the $70 free-shipping line, and returns are free if a design doesn't land with the person who gets it.

Skip it if...

You want a long written warranty, or you need just one cooler at full price. A $39.99 can cooler plus $5.99 shipping is hard to defend when cheaper rivals exist. Also skip the Mystery Boxes if you dislike final-sale purchases.

Alternatives

If Frost Buddy's universal fit isn't the deciding factor, these are the main rivals to compare.

FAQ

Is Frost Buddy legit?

Yes. Frost Buddy is a US drinkware brand started by brothers Brock and Mitch Mammoser, according to a 2026 profile in Illinois Country Living. It sells through its own Shopify store and retailers such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Academy Sports and Scheels. Its site shows prices up front, a 30-day return policy and a support email.

Does Frost Buddy have a discount code?

Frost Buddy offers 15% off when you join its VIP Buddies email list; the code arrives by email. It doesn't publish a public code on the site. When we checked, the pre-Black Friday sale had bigger markdowns of up to 51% off selected designs, so compare both before you apply a code.

What is Frost Buddy's return policy?

You can return unused items in their original packaging within 30 days of purchase if you bought them on frostbuddy.com. Returns start in the Returns Portal. Frost Buddy says it sends a free prepaid label for damaged or wrong items and for items that don't meet your expectations. Mystery items can't be returned.

Does Frost Buddy offer free shipping?

Yes, on US orders of $70 or more. When we checked, a single $39.99 Universal Buddy paid $5.99 for standard shipping and $19.99 for the faster option. Two regular-price Universal Buddys came to $79.98 and shipped free. International orders pay shipping rates.

How long does the Universal Buddy keep drinks cold?

Frost Buddy says the Universal Buddy keeps drinks cold for 12+ hours and hot for 6+ hours. It lists the To-Go Buddy at 24+ hours cold, and says the Thicc Buddy holds ice for 24+ hours. These are the brand's own figures; we did not test them.

What cans does the Universal Buddy fit?

Frost Buddy's FAQ lists 12oz regular and slim cans, 12oz and stubby bottles, 11.2oz bottles, and 16oz cans and bottles. For 16.9oz or 20oz bottles, 24oz cans and Modelo bottles, the brand points you to the Universal XL instead. Check your usual drink against both lists before you buy.

Does Frost Buddy have a warranty?

We couldn't find a product warranty on Frost Buddy's FAQ, refund or shipping pages. The site has a claim form but doesn't say what it covers. Your main protection is the 30-day return window for unused items, so check your order soon after it arrives.

Is the Frost Buddy Mystery Box worth it?

Only if you're buying gifts in bulk. The $100 box has a stated retail value of $150, measured against Frost Buddy's own prices, but you can't choose the designs, you may get duplicates, and the box can't be returned. During a sale, picking discounted items yourself can cost about the same.

What is the Frost Buddy Buddy Club?

The Buddy Club is Frost Buddy's planned loyalty program, with retired designs, daily drops and tiers. When we checked, its page was a waitlist marked coming soon, so it gives no rewards yet. The brand says full details will come at launch.

Final verdict

Frost Buddy makes a clever product. The Universal Buddy's main selling point, per the brand, is that one sleeve fits slim cans, regular cans and 16oz cans, and the To-Go Buddy does the same for takeout cups. The store itself is straightforward: prices are clear, there are no subscriptions, shipping is free from $70, and the 30-day return label is free even for a change of mind. What holds it back is full-price value and the lack of a published warranty. Our advice: buy during a sale, and pair items to reach $70. At $20–$30 a cooler, Frost Buddy is easy to recommend. At $40 plus shipping, compare it with the alternatives first. Frost Buddy says the Universal Buddy keeps drinks cold for 12+ hours; that is the brand's claim, not our test result.
