What ASUS is
ASUS is a Taiwanese computer maker, founded in Taipei in 1989 according to Wikipedia, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange as 2357.TW, as its own about page notes. It makes laptops, desktops, monitors, motherboards, graphics cards, routers and handheld gaming PCs, and runs the ROG (Republic of Gamers) and ProArt sub-brands for gamers and creators.
In the US, ASUS products are sold almost everywhere, from big-box stores to online marketplaces. ASUS also runs its own store, the ASUS Store (sometimes called the eShop), operated by ASUS Computer International, per the store's coupon terms. The old shop.asus.com/us address now redirects to asus.com/us/store, and checkout and help pages live on eshop.asus.com. The store only ships within the United States. This review looks at the store rather than any single laptop: what you gain by buying direct, what you give up, and which current deals are worth a look.
What makes it different
Free return labels and a holiday extension
ASUS's standard window is 30 calendar days from delivery, and the return label is free: you start the return under My Returns in your account. For the holidays, ASUS says purchases made between October 23 and December 31, 2026 can be returned until January 31, 2027. That is a useful cushion for gifts, and not every retailer matches it.
A 30-day price match
Buying direct usually means worrying that a big retailer will undercut you next week. ASUS says it will refund the difference if an eligible retailer lists the identical model and part number for less within 30 days of your invoice. The rules are strict. The competitor must ship and sell the item itself, marketplace sellers don't count, and coupons, bundles, clearance, open-box, education pricing and "special promotional periods" are all excluded. Read that last exclusion carefully, because a holiday sale on ASUS's own site could fall under it.
ID.me pricing for students and service communities
The store's Education Store link and its Military/Veterans link both lead to the same page: an ID.me verification program for students, teachers, military members, nurses, medical providers and first responders. You verify with ID.me using the same email as your ASUS account, and special prices then appear on product pages. ASUS doesn't publish the discount amount up front, so you need to verify before you can compare it with a retailer's price.
Every configuration in one place
Retailers often carry two or three configurations of a popular laptop. The ASUS Store lists the full range, including business ExpertBooks, creator ProArt machines and the newest ROG and TUF gaming models. When we checked, the laptop catalog showed 125 models, and 104 of them were in stock on the eShop.
A phone number with published hours
Plenty of direct-to-consumer stores offer only a contact form. The ASUS Store FAQ lists a toll-free number, 855-755-2787, staffed Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific, plus an email address, onlineservice@asus.com. ASUS asks you to report a delayed, lost or damaged shipment within 2 business days, which is a short window worth noting on delivery day. ASUS also says it places only a pre-authorization hold on your card at checkout and charges it when the order ships.
The product range
ASUS sells more than laptops, but laptops are the main reason to visit. These are representative models with the store prices shown on October 27, 2026. Starting prices may not match every configuration pictured, a caveat ASUS prints on its own listings.

The Wary Check
The store passes all six checks. The restocking fee and the price-match exclusions are the details most likely to cost you money.
6 of 6 checks passedScored only from ASUS's published policies, checked Oct 27, 2026. It measures how safe the purchase is, not product quality. About the Wary Check
Price and value
ASUS shows sale prices against its own list prices, so the "save $400" figures are measured against the brand's list price, not a guaranteed market price. They are still real reductions on the store when we checked.
| Laptop | ASUS list price | ASUS Store price (Oct 27, 2026) | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chromebook CR11 (CR1104C) | $459.99 | from $199.99 | $260 |
| Vivobook 16 (F1605) | $799.99 | from $549.99 | $250 |
| Zenbook 14 OLED (UM3406GA-XS79) | $1,499.99 | $1,099.99 | $400 |
| Zenbook A14 (UX3407) | $1,599.99 | from $1,199.99 | $400 |
| Zenbook A16 (UX3607) | $1,799.99 | from $1,399.99 | $400 |
The Zenbook 14 OLED at $1,099.99 is the standout: the listed configuration has a Ryzen AI 7 445, 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD, and ASUS includes a one-month Adobe Creative Cloud membership and a three-month Google AI Pro trial. Treat those freebies as trials. Read their renewal terms before you activate them, because ASUS doesn't publish how they bill afterward.
Direct or retailer? Here's how the main differences compare.
| What you get | ASUS Store | Typical retailer |
|---|---|---|
| 1-year manufacturer warranty | Yes | Yes (same ASUS warranty) |
| 1 year of Accidental Damage Protection | Yes, if registered within 60 days | Yes, if registered within 60 days, per ASUS's ADP terms |
| Return window | 30 days; holiday purchases until Jan 31, 2027 | Varies by retailer |
| Price protection | 30-day price match | Varies by retailer |
| Configurations | Full range | Usually a subset |
| ID.me pricing | Yes | Retailer-specific programs |
How to compare in five minutes. Copy the exact part number from the ASUS listing (for the Zenbook 14 OLED deal, UM3406GA-XS79) and search for it at two or three large retailers. Model names repeat across configurations, so the part number is the only reliable match. If a retailer is cheaper and ships and sells the laptop itself, you can either buy there or buy from ASUS and file a price-match request within 30 days. If ASUS is cheaper or equal, buying direct adds the longer holiday return window and the free return label at no extra cost.
The accidental-damage point surprises many buyers. ASUS's ADP page says the free year covers drops, liquid spills and electrical surges for products bought brand new and registered with ASUS within 60 days. It doesn't limit that to eShop orders, so a retailer purchase can get the same cover if you register it.
Shipping, returns and warranty
The point most store reviews skip is the restocking fee. ASUS's return policy reserves the right to deduct 15% of the refund when an item comes back with cosmetic damage, missing original packaging or missing accessories, or when an account returns things often. On a $1,099.99 laptop that is about $165. Keep the box, the charger and the paperwork until you're sure. Shipping charges are generally not refunded, though ASUS says it will consider refunding express fees under $50 by manual review if the product is unopened and undamaged.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Free return labels and a 30-day window, extended to Jan 31, 2027 for holiday purchases
- 30-day price match against major retailers' own listings
- ID.me pricing for students, teachers, military, nurses, medical providers and first responders
- Free ground shipping over $29.99 and phone support with published hours
- Every configuration ASUS sells, including models retailers may not stock
- Current deals take $250–$400 off several Zenbook and Vivobook models
Cons
- A 15% restocking fee can apply if the box, accessories or finish aren't in original condition
- The free year of Accidental Damage Protection isn't an eShop perk; you get it from retailers too if you register
- Price match excludes coupons, bundles, education pricing and special promotional periods
- ID.me discount amounts aren't shown until you verify
- No shipping outside the US, and express shipping is generally not refunded
- Coupons can't be used on items that are already discounted
Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Good fit: students and service communities
If you qualify for ID.me pricing, start at the ASUS Store. You will see the community price on top of any current deal before you commit, and you keep the free return label. Remember that ID.me pricing can't be combined with a price match.
Good fit: holiday and gift buyers
The extended return window, through January 31, 2027 for purchases from October 23, makes the store a lower-risk place to buy a laptop as a gift. The current $250–$400 reductions on Zenbook and Vivobook models make the timing better still.
Skip it if...
A major retailer already has the identical model for less and you would rather not file a price-match claim. Skip it as well if you shop for open-box or refurbished deals, which the price match excludes, or if you need delivery outside the US.
Alternatives
If you're still choosing a brand rather than a store, these makers also sell direct.

FAQ
Is the ASUS eShop legit?
Yes. The ASUS Store at asus.com/us/store is ASUS's own US online store, run by ASUS Computer International according to its coupon terms. It publishes its return, shipping and price-match rules, lists a toll-free number (855-755-2787) and an email address, and only takes your card as a pre-authorization until the order ships.
Does ASUS have a student discount?
ASUS offers special pricing to students, teachers, military members, nurses, medical providers and first responders through ID.me. Log in to your ASUS account with the same email you use for ID.me, verify, and the special prices appear on product pages. ASUS doesn't publish the discount amount before you verify.
What is the ASUS Store return policy?
You can request a refund within 30 calendar days of delivery, and the return label is free from the My Returns section of your account. Items must be in original condition. Purchases made between October 23 and December 31, 2026 can be returned until January 31, 2027. Software and opened activation codes can't be returned.
Does ASUS charge a restocking fee?
Sometimes. ASUS reserves the right to deduct a 15% restocking fee when an item comes back with cosmetic damage, without its original packaging or missing accessories, or when an account shows a high rate of returns. Keep the box and every accessory until you're sure you're keeping the laptop.
Is it cheaper to buy from ASUS or from a retailer?
It depends on the week. ASUS's deals page showed $250–$400 off several laptops when we checked, and it offers a 30-day price match against retailers' own listings. Retailers sometimes run their own sales, which ASUS will match on identical part numbers, though not during its special promotional periods or on bundles.
Does ASUS price match?
Yes, within 30 days of your invoice date. The model name and part number must be identical, the competitor must ship and sell the item itself, and the item must be new and in stock. Clearance, open-box, marketplace listings, coupons, bundles, education pricing and special promotional periods are excluded. One request per order.
What warranty do ASUS laptops have?
ASUS laptops on the store list a 1-year manufacturer warranty, plus 1 year of Accidental Damage Protection covering drops, spills and electrical surges if you register the laptop within 60 days of purchase. ADP excludes cosmetic damage, theft and loss. ASUS sells extensions of up to 4 years through Premium Care.
Does the ASUS Store offer free shipping?
Yes, free ground shipping applies to orders over $29.99 delivered to the contiguous United States. Most orders are processed within two business days, and a signature is required on most orders over $300. ASUS says it does not ship outside the US, and shipping charges are generally not refunded on returns.
Final verdict
Buying direct from ASUS is worth it more often than not, as long as you go in knowing the rules. The store's real advantages are free return labels, a holiday window that runs to January 31, 2027, a 30-day price match, ID.me pricing, and the full range of configurations. Today's deals, led by the Zenbook 14 OLED at $1,099.99, make a good case on price alone. The free year of accidental damage cover is not one of those advantages, because you get it from retailers too if you register within 60 days. The real risk is the 15% restocking fee if your return arrives without its packaging or accessories. Compare the part number with a retailer's price, verify with ID.me if you qualify, and keep the box.
