Image: Four Sigmatic

The short answer

Four Sigmatic is worth it if you like the coffee and want organic beans with mushroom extracts, but you pay a premium over plain coffee. A 10 oz ground bag is $20, and the subscription takes 30% off your first order, then 20% off refills. Cancelling is self-serve, and the brand offers a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Good for

  • Coffee drinkers curious about lion's mane or chaga who want organic, fruiting-body extracts
  • People who want a lower-caffeine instant option (the brand says 50mg per serving)
  • Subscribers who manage deliveries online and keep each order above $49

Skip it if

  • You expect a health effect; the brand's benefit claims are not FDA-evaluated
  • You want the cheapest cup of coffee; a $20 bag costs about $1.54 a serving

What Four Sigmatic is

Four Sigmatic sells coffee, cocoa, protein powder and drink mixes made with functional mushroom extracts such as lion's mane, chaga, reishi and cordyceps. Its About page says the company has been making mushroom and adaptogen blends for 14 years and traces its roots to Finland and the Isokauppila family's mushroom-foraging tradition. The legal name on its refund policy is Four Sigma Foods Inc. We didn't find a US headquarters address on the pages we checked.

In the US, foursigmatic.com redirects to us.foursigmatic.com, a Shopify store that ships to the US and Canada in US dollars. A separate site serves other countries. The help center says the products are also stocked at retailers, including Sprouts Farmers Market. Four Sigmatic says it has served more than 500 million cups.

This review sticks to what you pay and what the brand says. Four Sigmatic's own footer notes that its statements haven't been evaluated by the FDA.

What makes it different

Fruiting-body extracts, per the brand

Four Sigmatic says it uses only extracts from mushroom fruiting bodies, the cap and stem, and no mycelium grown on grain. It says ingredient lists that mention "myceliated grain" are a sign of filler in other brands' products. We can't verify extract potency, but the claim gives you something concrete to compare on other labels.

Testing and organic sourcing

The brand says its products are third-party tested for heavy metals, mycotoxins, mold, yeast and pesticides. It describes the coffees as organic Arabica, and says the beans for the Focus ground coffee come from a family-run co-op in Honduras. These are the brand's statements, and we didn't find public test reports linked on the product pages.

Coffee first, mushrooms second

Unlike some rivals that replace coffee entirely, most of Four Sigmatic's range is real coffee with mushroom extracts added. The brand says its instant coffees have 50mg of caffeine per serving, lower than a typical cup, and it sells half-caf, high-caf and decaf ground versions. If you want no caffeine at all, the Elixir packets are coffee-free.

A membership you manage yourself

Four Sigmatic calls its subscription a membership, and the help center describes it as free to join. You pick Subscribe & Save on a product page and choose a delivery schedule. From the online Member portal you can change how often orders arrive, pick a date up to 90 days out, swap or remove products, skip a delivery or cancel. You don't need to phone a retention line to quit, which is the main thing we look for in a subscription. The product page also mentions free gifts and insured shipping for members, but we didn't find the gift terms spelled out.

Price and value

Mushroom coffee costs more than regular coffee, and Four Sigmatic is no exception. A 10 oz bag of Focus Ground Coffee is $20 for about 13 servings, roughly $1.54 a cup at full price. The Original Mushroom Coffee is $50 for 30 servings, about $1.67 each. Multi-packs shave a little off: a 2-pack of Focus Ground is $38 instead of $40.

ItemOne-timeFirst subscription order (30% off)Each refill (20% off)
Focus Ground Coffee, 10 oz$20$14$16
Focus Instant Coffee, packets$15$10.50$12
Original Mushroom Coffee, 30 servings$50$35$40
Ground Coffee Bundle (6 bags + creamer + canister)$65One-time onlyOne-time only
Mystery Ground Coffee, 1 bag$8One-time onlyOne-time only

Cost over time. The subscription is where most buyers end up, so do the math on refills, not on the first box. After the first order, the discount drops from 30% to 20%. One bag of Focus Ground every 30 days costs $14 the first month and $16 every month after, or $190 over a year, compared with $240 buying one-time. A one-bag refill sits well below the $49 free-shipping line. When we checked, a $15 cart paid $4.99 shipping, and adding that to every refill wipes out most of the subscription saving. Bundle two or three products per delivery, or switch to a 60-day schedule with a bigger order.

Other formats cost more per serving. Focus Coffee Pods are $36 for 24 pods, $1.50 each, and the caffeine-free Focus Elixir is $38 for a box of 20 packets, $1.90 each. The Plant-Based Protein is $50 a tub. The brand says it now has 20g of protein per serving, with added prebiotics, probiotics, greens and mushrooms. If you only want the coffee, the ground bags are the cheapest way in.

The bundle "value" figures, such as $165 for the Ground Coffee Bundle, are measured against Four Sigmatic's own list prices, including the creamer and canister. For coffee alone, six $20 bags come to $120, so $65 for six bags plus extras is the lowest per-bag price we found on the site.

Shipping, returns and warranty

The fine print most reviews skip: Four Sigmatic has two return policies. Its help center and terms describe a 60-day money-back guarantee that doesn't refund shipping. Its separate Shopify refund policy page says 45 days, unopened items only, a 3% processing fee and return shipping at your cost. Free shipping is listed at $49 on the homepage but $59 in the help center. In our test, a $50 cart shipped free, which fits the $49 figure. Email support before returning anything, and keep the reply. The guarantee also only covers products bought from Four Sigmatic or its authorized sellers, so a marketplace listing from an unknown seller isn't covered. One more useful line from the help center: if Four Sigmatic cuts a price within 5 calendar days of your order, you can ask for the difference back as a refund or credit.

PolicyWhat Four Sigmatic saysSource
ShippingFree over $49 per the homepage banner (confirmed at checkout); $4.99 Priority on a small order. Orders usually ship within 24–48 hours, and US delivery averages 3–5 business days.
Returns60-day money-back guarantee; contact support with proof of purchase. You may be asked to mail back the unused portion. It doesn't cover products from unauthorized sellers.
Return costsShipping costs are not refunded. The separate refund policy page also lists a 3% processing fee and customer-paid return shipping for unwanted, unopened items.
WarrantyNo warranty beyond the 60-day money-back guarantee (food products).
Price matchNo outside price match. If Four Sigmatic lowers its own price within 5 calendar days of your order, you can ask for the difference back as a refund or credit.
Supportsupport@foursigmatic.com; (213) 699-4616 goes to voicemail with a stated 48–60 hour follow-up.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Self-serve subscription: pause, skip, swap or cancel online any time, per the brand
  • 60-day money-back guarantee, longer than most food brands offer
  • The brand says it uses organic, fruiting-body mushroom extracts and third-party tests for heavy metals, mycotoxins, mold, yeast and pesticides
  • Lower-caffeine instant options (50mg per serving, per the brand) and decaf
  • The $65 one-time Ground Coffee Bundle is cheaper per bag than buying bags singly

Cons

  • About $1.54 a serving for ground coffee at full price, well above regular organic coffee
  • The subscription discount falls from 30% to 20% after the first order
  • Conflicting policy pages: free shipping is listed at $49 and $59, and returns at 60 days and 45 days
  • Support relies on email and voicemail, with a stated 48–60 hour wait
  • Benefit claims such as results in as little as 7 days are not FDA-evaluated, and no study is linked on the product page

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Good fit: the curious coffee drinker

If you already drink coffee daily and want to try lion's mane or chaga without changing your routine, the Focus ground coffee or pods are the lowest-effort way to do it. The 60-day guarantee lowers the risk if you dislike the taste.

Good fit: the caffeine trimmer

The instant coffees list 50mg of caffeine per serving, per the brand, and there are half-caf and decaf ground options. That can suit someone cutting back who still wants the coffee ritual.

Good fit: the organized subscriber

If you drink the same coffee every day and don't mind managing an online account, the membership works well. Set a 60-day schedule, add enough products to clear $49, and the 20% refill discount plus free shipping beats one-time buying. Put a reminder in your calendar a few days before each renewal so you can skip or swap if you're overstocked.

Skip it if...

You want proof of a health benefit, or you're on a tight coffee budget. The brand's benefit language, such as results in as little as seven days, isn't FDA-evaluated, and no study is linked on the product page. If you're pregnant, nursing or managing a health condition, Four Sigmatic itself says to talk to your doctor first.

FAQ

Is Four Sigmatic legit?

Yes. Four Sigmatic is an established mushroom-coffee brand. It says it has sold functional mushroom drinks for 14 years and has roots in Finland, and its products are stocked at US retailers including Sprouts, per its help center. Its store shows prices up front, lists a phone number and support email, and publishes a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Does Four Sigmatic have a discount code?

Four Sigmatic gives 10% off your first order when you sign up by email; the code arrives by email. It doesn't publish a public code. The bigger savings when we checked were the subscription (30% off the first order, then 20% off) and the one-time Ground Coffee Bundle at $65. Only one code works per order.

How do I cancel my Four Sigmatic subscription?

Log in to the Member account portal on the US site and cancel there. Four Sigmatic says you can cancel at any time, and you can also pause, skip or swap products. If you get stuck, contact the Membership team at support@foursigmatic.com or (213) 699-4616. Cancel before your next scheduled order date to avoid another charge.

What is Four Sigmatic's return policy?

Four Sigmatic's help center describes a 60-day money-back guarantee for US buyers who purchased from its site or authorized sellers; shipping costs aren't refunded. A separate refund policy page lists stricter terms: 45 days, unopened items only, a 3% fee and return shipping paid by you. Email support first and ask which terms apply.

Does Four Sigmatic offer free shipping?

Yes, in the US. The homepage says orders over $49 ship free, and a $50 test cart showed free shipping at checkout. A $15 cart paid $4.99. Some product pages and the help center still say $59, so check the shipping line at checkout, especially on small subscription refills.

How much caffeine is in Four Sigmatic coffee?

Four Sigmatic says its instant coffees contain 50mg of caffeine per serving. Ground coffee and pods vary by product, and the brand sells half-caf, high-caf and decaf versions. Check each product's label for the exact figure if you're watching your caffeine intake.

Is mushroom coffee safe?

Four Sigmatic says its products are third-party tested for heavy metals, mycotoxins, mold, yeast and pesticides, and that they are not psychedelic. The brand itself recommends talking to a healthcare professional first if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have specific health needs. Its statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.

Does Four Sigmatic taste like mushrooms?

Four Sigmatic says its Focus coffee does not taste like mushrooms and describes the dark roast as having notes of dark chocolate. The coffees use organic Arabica beans, which the brand says come from a family-run co-op in Honduras. Taste is personal, which is where the 60-day guarantee helps.

Is Four Sigmatic worth the money?

It depends on what you value. At about $1.54 a serving for ground coffee, you pay a premium for organic beans and mushroom extracts. If you like the taste, the $65 bundle or a subscription kept above $49 per order brings the cost down. Don't buy it expecting a medical benefit; the brand's claims are not FDA-evaluated.

Final verdict

Four Sigmatic is a well-run store selling a premium product. Pricing is clear, the subscription is opt-in and cancellable online, and the 60-day money-back guarantee is generous for food. The catches are cost and paperwork. You pay about $1.50 a cup for ground coffee, the subscription discount drops to 20% after the first order, and small refills can pay shipping. Two policy pages also disagree on the return window and the free-shipping line. If you want to try it, the $65 Ground Coffee Bundle is the best entry point: it's one-time, covers every roast, and never renews. Buy it for the coffee you enjoy, not for a promised health effect. Talk to your doctor if you have a health condition.
