KittySpout Review: What the Fountain Really Costs Once Filters Kick In

We may earn a commission if you buy through our links. How we review

Calico cat drinking from a KittySpout Wireless Fountain 2.0 in stainless steel

The short answer

KittySpout's stainless fountains are reasonably priced up front, but the main single-fountain kits can only be checked out with a filter subscription that renews at $29.99 plus shipping every four weeks. Buy a bundle with a six-month filter supply instead and the math improves a lot. The 365-day guarantee is generous, though refunds end at day 45.

Good for

  • Cat owners who want a stainless-steel fountain and will buy filters in bulk
  • Buyers who like a long exchange window: exchanges or store credit for up to 365 days
  • Multi-cat homes weighing a bundle against two separate kits

Skip it if

  • You don't want any auto-renewing plan attached to a hardware purchase
  • You want a phone line, a single consistent return policy and prices that don't change between pages

What KittySpout is

KittySpout is an online brand that sells stainless-steel water fountains for cats, along with replacement filters, pumps, splash mats, an automatic feeder, a toy and a line of cat supplements. It also runs a sister dog brand, DoggySpout. According to KittySpout's terms of service, the website is operated by DT Ecom Ltd., and the terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. The brand doesn't state a founding date or a street address on the pages we checked, so we can't tell you more about the company's history or size.

KittySpout sells through its own website and ships worldwide. US orders go by USPS and take 5 to 8 business days after one to two business days of processing, per its shipping page. The brand says it works with veterinary consultants and donates $1 from every order to cat shelters and charities; we haven't verified either.

The fountains come in four main versions: a compact corded 2.2-liter model, the original larger kit, an original wireless model and a newer Wireless 2.0 offered in steel and colors.

What makes it different

Stainless steel and a faucet-style spout

KittySpout's main pitch is the material and the shape. The bowls are 304 stainless steel, which the brand says is dishwasher safe, and the water arcs out of a raised spout like a small tap. KittySpout says its 2.2-liter model holds enough water for 8 to 10 days and runs a pump quieter than 20 decibels. Stainless steel is easier to keep clean than scratched plastic, which is the usual reason people switch. The wireless models are cordless, so they don't need to sit next to an outlet.

The filter plan that comes with the fountain

This is the point most KittySpout reviews leave out. The single-fountain kits linked from the main menu (the 2.2L, the 4L kit, the original Wireless and the Wireless 2.0) can only be checked out with a filter subscription. The kit itself is cheap. The 2.2L kit was $49.95 when we checked. But the product page says filters renew at $29.99 plus shipping every 4 weeks until you cancel. The disclosure is on the page, in small type under the add-to-cart button, but there's no one-time option on those kits.

Cancelling is self-serve. KittySpout's subscription policy says you can log in, open Manage Subscriptions and click Cancel Subscription, which it says takes effect instantly. You can also email support with the subject "Cancel Subscription", allowing up to 48 hours. Either way, cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Renewals already charged aren't refunded automatically, and if the order has already shipped, the normal return rules apply.

A 365-day guarantee with layers

KittySpout's main refund page is more generous than most. You get a refund within 45 days of delivery, and an exchange or store credit (valid for 12 months) until day 365. The guarantee covers defects and, within the policy's conditions, a cat that simply won't use the fountain. The limits: used items get store credit or a partial refund, opened filters can't be returned, and you pay return shipping unless the item was defective, damaged or wrong, or you bought package protection. A separate refund page on the same site still describes a plain 30-day policy, so screenshot the version you rely on.

Big health claims, no linked study

The product pages say the fountain helps cats "drink 3x more water" and "reduces the risk of kidney issues and UTIs," and they cite a veterinary journal on chronic kidney disease. That journal reference is about hydration in general, and the page doesn't link a study of the KittySpout fountain itself. Treat those lines as marketing. If your cat has a urinary or kidney condition, your vet is the right person to ask about hydration.

The product range

Fountain kits start under $50, but the filters are what you keep paying for. The store also sells pumps, spouts, adapters and a cleaning kit as spare parts.

Current offers

KittySpout was running a "Meowlloween" sale when we checked, and most fountain prices were shown as about "50% off" a higher list price. That list price is the brand's own, so judge the real cost, not the percentage. Codes don't stack with sale prices, per the FAQ.

  • 50% OFF

Value Bundle with 2.2L fountain and 6 months of filters for $120.99

Includes the 2.2L fountain, a 6-month filter supply, an anti-splash mat, 3 cat toys, a $50 gift card and pump replacements for life. 4L, Wireless and Wireless 2.0 versions cost $157.99, $154.99 and $149.99. The 50% is measured against the brand's own $241.99 list price. The store data shows no subscription plan attached, though the page repeats a generic 'filters ship every 4 weeks' line, so check your cart.

The Wary Check

KittySpout passes four of six checks. It fails on clear pricing and forced renewal because of the filter plan attached to its single-fountain kits.

Price and value

The up-front prices are easy to find. What's harder to see is the cost of the filters over a year. KittySpout recommends a new filter set every two weeks on its filter pages and in its FAQ. (The 2.2L product page's spec list says every four weeks, so the brand isn't consistent.) At one set every two weeks, a cat goes through about 26 sets a year.

Filters, 8 sets$49.99About 4 months
Filters, 12 sets$59.99About 6 months
Pump replacements for life$19.95Add-on; requires a video of the failed pump

Here's the first-year cost of a 2.2L fountain three ways, using KittySpout's listed prices and our own arithmetic:

  • Single kit with the required plan: $49.95, then $29.99 every 4 weeks. Over 52 weeks that's 12 renewals, or about $410 before renewal shipping. The page doesn't say how many filter sets each $29.99 delivery contains.
  • Single kit, cancel the plan right away, buy filters in bulk: $49.95 plus a 12-pack ($59.99) and an 8-pack ($49.99) to cover the other ten months, or about $160 a year, plus any shipping on orders under $110. The subscription policy lets you cancel at any time.
  • Value Bundle, then one 12-pack: $120.99 plus $59.99, or about $181 a year, and you also get the mat, toys and pump replacements for life.

One more wrinkle: the brand's store data lists several copies of the same 2.2L kit at $49.95, $54.95, $59.95 and $62.95, apparently for different landing pages. If you arrived from an ad, compare against the main product page before paying.

Shipping, returns and warranty

The point a typical review skips: the generous 365-day guarantee doesn't mean 365 days of refunds. Cash refunds stop at day 45, after which it's exchange or store credit. Change-of-mind returns ship at your cost, and opened filters are final. The 3-year limited warranty described in the terms isn't included; it has to be purchased per fountain or per bundle. KittySpout's FAQ also says orders can't be cancelled once placed.

PolicyWhat KittySpout saysSource
ShippingUS orders ship by USPS in 5–8 business days after 1–2 business days of processing. Free shipping over $110 on product pages; fountain kits list free shipping. No PO boxes. KittySpout says it isn't responsible for packages marked delivered.
ReturnsRefund within 45 days of delivery; exchange or store credit (valid 12 months) up to day 365. Items should be clean and in original packaging; used items get store credit or a partial refund. Opened filters, supplements and final-sale items can't be returned. A separate Shopify refund page still states a 30-day policy.
Return costsYou pay return shipping if you changed your mind or your cat didn't like it. KittySpout pays if the item is defective, damaged or wrong, or if you bought package protection. Original shipping fees aren't refunded.
WarrantyThe 365-day guarantee covers defects and doesn't restart on replacements. A 3-year limited warranty (pumps, wireless control modules, transit damage) must be purchased per fountain or per bundle. Lifetime pump replacement is a $19.95 add-on and requires a video of the failed pump.
Price matchNot stated by the brand. The FAQ says orders placed before a promotion don't get the new price.
Supportsupport@kittyspout.com, Monday–Friday 9 AM–10 PM EST; the brand says it typically replies within 2 hours. Contact form available; no phone listed.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 304 stainless-steel bowls, which KittySpout says are dishwasher safe
  • Exchanges or store credit for up to 365 days after delivery, and refunds for 45 days
  • Bundles include 6 months of filters and come without a subscription plan in the store data
  • Filters are cheap in bulk: about $5 a set in the 12-pack
  • Cancelling the filter subscription is self-serve in the account portal
  • Email support with long weekday hours (9 AM–10 PM EST)

Cons

  • Single-fountain kits require a filter plan that renews at $29.99 plus shipping every 4 weeks, which is about $390 a year in filters
  • The renewal reminder email is promised only for annual or semi-annual plans, not the 4-week plan
  • The same kit is listed at several prices, and the '50% off' figures are measured against the brand's own list prices
  • Two refund pages disagree (30 days vs. a 365-day guarantee with refunds until day 45)
  • The 3-year warranty and lifetime pump coverage cost extra
  • Product pages make health claims (for example, a reduced risk of kidney issues and UTIs) without linking a study of the fountain

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Good fit: the bundle buyer

If you want a stainless fountain and don't mind buying filters in bulk twice a year, the Value Bundle makes sense. At $120.99 you get six months of filters and pump coverage, and the store data shows no subscription attached.

Good fit: the cautious first-timer

Not sure your cat will drink from a fountain? KittySpout's 45-day refund window is longer than most, and you can exchange for a different model until day 365. Keep the packaging and plan on paying return shipping.

Skip it if...

You don't want a recurring charge tied to a hardware purchase, you'd rather call a phone line than email, or you're shopping on price alone. Other fountain makers list stainless and cordless models for less.

FAQ

Is KittySpout legit?

Yes, it's a real store that ships real products, but read the fine print. Its terms say the site is operated by DT Ecom Ltd., with Ontario, Canada law governing the terms. The founding date and a street address aren't stated. The main single-fountain kits come with a required filter subscription, and some policy pages contradict each other.

Does KittySpout have a subscription?

Yes. The 2.2L, 4L, Wireless and Wireless 2.0 kits linked from the main menu can only be checked out with a filter plan that renews at $29.99 plus shipping every 4 weeks. Filters can also be bought on an optional plan every 8, 16 or 24 weeks, with 20% off the first order only. The bundles carry no subscription plan in the store data.

How do I cancel my KittySpout subscription?

Log in to your KittySpout account, open Manage Subscriptions and select Cancel Subscription; the brand says this takes effect instantly. You can also email support@kittyspout.com with the subject line 'Cancel Subscription', but allow up to 48 hours. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date, because renewals already charged aren't refunded automatically.

How much do KittySpout filters cost?

A 4-pack of filter sets is $29.99, an 8-pack is $49.99 and a 12-pack is $59.99. KittySpout recommends replacing the set every 2 weeks, so a 12-pack covers about six months. Bought in 12-packs, filters cost about $120 a year. On the 4-week subscription that comes with single kits, you'd pay about $390 a year before shipping.

What is KittySpout's return policy?

KittySpout's main refund page offers a refund within 45 days of delivery and an exchange or store credit until day 365. Items should be clean and in original packaging; used items get store credit or a partial refund. Opened filters and supplements can't be returned. You pay return shipping if you changed your mind. A separate refund page still says 30 days.

Does KittySpout have a warranty?

Every original purchase gets a 365-day guarantee that covers defects and doesn't restart on replacements. A 3-year limited warranty is described in the terms, but it must be purchased separately for each fountain or bundle. Lifetime pump replacement is a $19.95 add-on that requires a video showing the pump has failed.

Does KittySpout have a discount code?

KittySpout doesn't publish a public code. It was running a 'Meowlloween' sale when we checked, and its FAQ says codes don't work on sale items. A friend's referral link gives $15 off a first order of $85 or more. The best value we found was the Value Bundle at $120.99.

Is a cat water fountain good for my cat's health?

KittySpout says cats drink more from flowing water and that its fountain reduces the risk of kidney issues and UTIs, but its product page doesn't link a study of the fountain itself. We can't verify those claims. If your cat has a urinary or kidney condition, ask your vet about hydration before relying on any fountain.

Final verdict

KittySpout sells a well-specified stainless fountain with an unusually long exchange window, and its subscription is easy to cancel online. The problem is how the purchase is structured. The cheapest kits require a filter plan that renews at $29.99 plus shipping every four weeks, prices vary across copies of the same product, and two refund pages disagree. If you want a KittySpout, buy the Value Bundle ($120.99 with six months of filters), or cancel the filter plan in your account right after a single-kit order and buy 12-packs at about $5 a set. Ignore the "50% off" framing and the health claims, and judge it on the yearly cost.
